Test of the rally car

After a very long break, our BMW is alive again! We have made different upgrades on the car, and the biggest is a brand new race engine build by Köhler Racing in Sweeden. The car has also been on corner-weights, and we have adjusted the wheel allignments, so the car is handling as good as possible. After all the work, we were exited to test the car on a small test track.

Brian had to get used to driving the car again, and since our primary goal was to test, that everything in  the car was working, we drove with large safety margins. Overall, the car was working great. It handles as we want it to, and it has a great balance and cornering speed. The new engine engine ir running like a dream, and it has a lot more power than the old one had.
 

 However, the test shoved two mistakes on the car. The first, and most serious mistake, was, that the cooling system on the car isn´t good enough, so the engine oveheats. Obviously this doesn´t work, and we are trying to solve this problem now.  We also have to change the mounting position of the power steering switch. Brian turned the switch off by accident several times, when he shifted down gears. This is quite unfourtunal, because the car is VERY hard to turn, when the power steering is turned off. . .


Plans for 2012:
Leegaard Racing will only be compeeting in a couple of races in 2012, since Brian doesn´t have time for more this year. Our primary goal this season is to get the car working 100%, and we also want to do a couple of races, so we cann get the speed into our bodys again.
